From Moaning to Creating with Meaning - Tech Stack Talk for Creatives
Creatives (ppl who make a living doing writing, designing, filming, day-dreaming work for ad agencies and production houses), are go-getters and problem-solvers.
But, mostly are chronic-moaners.
"My 3-year old can write a better brief!"
"The client doesn't know anything!"
"I'm not getting paid enough for this shit"
"Oh this city isn't ready for creative ideas like this"
"You want me to deliver this on Monday? It's FRIDAY today!"
Been there, done that.
Moaning is part of the creative process. But, do you know what else I wish was part of the creative process?
A 🛠️ workable tech stack 🛠️ that actually channels all the moaning into measurable output.
The pandemic did 📈 accelerate the need for workflows, updated project management tools, cloud-based file sharing systems etc, but unfortunately not all agencies got the brief.
Why?
👉 1. Lack of exposure and knowledge when it comes to the latest tech tools and workflows.
👉 2. Learning new tools and processes are unfamiliar. Burning the midnight oil and powering through without a work-life balance is familiar. We'd rather go with the devil we know - yes?
👉 3. Resistance to change - it's just easier to send a really long whatsapp voice note or have a 45-min meeting then plugging in comments in a project management tool.
👉 4. Not enough time, budget or resources to invest in new technology.
👉 5. Don't have the right people in-house to implement and maintain a tech stack.
👉 6. Everyone does their own thing, using their own tool and somehow some amount of work is done in all that chaos. So why reinvent the wheel right?
👉 7. Lack of support from the management - they have bigger problems and making your life efficient isn't on their list.
👉 8. You're still reading this. So, thank you and I believe in you!
A workable tech stack helps creative teams streamline their workflows and automate repetitive tasks. This means enhanced efficiency, better output, and healthier work-life balance.
And, why wouldn't anyone want that, unless they find gratification through pain, degradation, and self-denial! 🤔
I've had some experience setting up creative workflows for teams I've been part of - in my next post, I'll try to break them down into steps so you too can set up an achievable tech stack for your organisation.
And, if you have successfully deployed some tools and systems at work for your creative teams, drop them in the comments below.
